Gaspee Days and Memorial Day Weekend Heat Up the BBQ Warwick, RI

Yes, this is the onset of Gaspee Days in Warwick, Rhode Island. While enjoying the long weekend courtesy of Memorial Day, many of us will spend a day down in Pawtuxet Village at the Gaspee Days Arts and Crafts Festival. Then, hopefully after a successful day of browsing and shopping, we'll return to our backyards and decks to fire up the BBQ. Let the summer begin.

Snack food should be fun and easy. We love deviled eggs and find these

Try preparing these skewers of Chicken Satay early so they can go on the grill as you need them.

We love burgers at my house so we'll be grilling classic favorites with spicy new twists.
These Andouille and Beef Burgers are a mouthful of flavor.

A fabulous sidedish I found packs great visual interest and a fresh surprise on an old classic.
The Grilled Zucchini Salad is loaded with the texture of Romano cheese and pine nuts.

Make an Outdoor Breakfast the Start to Your Successful Day Linda Maintanis, Warwick, RI

Linda Maintanis - Food for Thought, Governor Francis Farms, Warwick, RI

 Aristotle Onassis once said,
"The two criteria for success are to rise early
and to have a good tan."

Since I believe I'm finally in control of my life
this summer to say that I'm doing both of these well
I suppose that I should feel that I'm a success!
Hardly!

This quote is very truthful.
In fact, we all certainly feel that
we are putting our best foot forward
when we are most pleased
with our appearance.
And each of us is more likely to
have a successful day
when we've started it with the birds.

 Early mornings in the summer
seem to beckon us out of doors
where the simplest of foods
become the most flavorful.
Simplicity is the key word here.
Kids and adults alike will feel most pampered
with one or two special items in large quantities.

Heaping stacks of blueberry pancakes
served with mounds of fresh picked strawberries
would rouse the grumpiest of husbands on a Saturday morning.
Or a full basket of soft, warm apple muffins with a mound of crispy bacon to tease a testy three year old back to the table.
Even my older (40ish) friends would feel rejuvenated
by a breakfast of Coladas, Eggnog French Toast
and Fresh Fruit with Mint Leaves!

Spicy PALEO Breakfast Sausage

Try to keep the menu simple - prepare as much as possible in advance. Coffee pots can be set up the night before,
batters premixed and refrigerated, eggs beaten and stored in the bowl overnight,
even home fries can be parboiled and chilled, ready for a shake on the griddle...
Just be sure the meal makes it to the table quickly enough that you can sit yourself down in time to enjoy!

Bazaar Candy for the Holiday Season - Fudge and Caramels - by Linda Maintanis, Governor Francis Farms

'Tis the season for bazaars, and as everyone knows, tis also the season for making bazaar contributions.

While most of us are aware of the usual craft, silent auction and bake table items that we might donate, there are other fun alternatives to these. One of my favorites is making a donation of homemade candy.

Whether you choose classic candies such as Creamy Caramels, English Butter Toffee and Peanut Brittle or something new, like Cranberry Rum Fudge, they will certainly be a big hit at the bazaar.

And items with special appeal are also great for discriminating shoppers. Try the Pralines and the Maple Penuche for a rich flavor that's suitable for gift-giving. Lastly, the Sugar Coated Popcorn  has a ready to eat flavor that will please the palates of both the young and the young at heart!

Instant Pot = Instant Success

Instant Pot = Instant Success?   How can that be? read on...

The 8 qt is on sale at amazon right now. This instant pot model is the one that also has the yogurt making feature. For those of you that are new to keto, this device is a pressure cooking crock pot. It has an incredible ability to cook meat from frozen and break down tougher cuts into fork tender version. I literally use mine 5 times a week. This is my number one keto gadget. a time saver, and adds convenience because you can make food anytime you like in larger quantity. it will hold it in 'warm' mode till its dinner time too.
